Jayk – Everything Ever

Jayk, the young passionate artist originally from Wisconsin doesn’t just sing, he tells a story. His EP Everything Ever is very much based on what he himself has learned during the ice-breaking of his career. He actually confessed that it took him around seven whole years to get this EP done because he wanted his debut to be spectacular.

Jayk isn’t your stereotypical indie artist, though his voice is rugged and very strong there are many pop aspects too it, not at all changing the fact he’s very talented. A song that beautifully showcases his talent is “The End.” The intro is very much like something from The Script, and his voice doesn’t really sound very deep until about a minute into the song. It’s very emotional; it’s soulful and soft but still extremely heart clenching. I can only imagine the thoughts going through his head whilst writing this. The repeated lyric in this song is:

“Maybe we will sit and
wonder how this could be the end.”

When Jayk’s voice was created, God added a hint of Bon Iver and a dash of Ed Sheeran. It’s incredibly raw and kind of aggressive but loving at the same time, which is a rare but wonderful combo. His song “November” shows this perfectly, when he sings with such bold desire:Which gives a very worrying impression, it’s quite depressing and sad but that doesn’t take away its allure and mystery which makes it a great song.

“November, November, I
can’t wait forever.”

As well as it being completely energetic and vigorous, it also has a tiny pinch of desperation to express his hurt and pain.

His music fits into quite a few categories. He’s on the border of indie/pop/rock/electro and almost urban, listening to his first track on the EP “Secrets.” It’s kind of imaginable to see him rapping on stage with Drake or Jay-Z yet it’s still possible to see him pouring his heart out with Ben Howard. He’s very diverse, which is a plus.

In general a very poetic man who just wants to show his feelings and love for music. He’s definitely got space for learning and hopefully his music will adapt further in 2013.
